Christidis & Boles (2008) and IOC recognise two species within the Petroica multicolor complex: P. multicolor in the Pacific Islands (the Pacific Robin) and P. boodang in mainland Australia. Birdlife International recognises only one species, P. multicolor, the Scarlet Robin.
